Can This Program Help Students With Serious Learning Disabilities?
The following pages contain some results and other data about students.
Nearly all had been diagnosed with serious learning disabilities and had
previously been through a variety of special classes and tutoring.
Each name represents a victory. Most of these students were delivered
from almost certain failure in school and in life. While some had such severe
handicaps (brain tumors, autism, Savant Syndrome, strokes, impaired
mental capacity, Tourette’s Syndrome, etc.) that they will never become
truly fluent, they all made significant gains.
The assessments were determined by the following instruments:
The Wide Range Achievement Test (WRAT®)
The Classroom Reading Inventory
The Advanced Reading Inventory
The Wide Range Achievement Test (WRAT) is designed to measure only
word attack and/or word recognition skills. It corresponds highly to other
tests in that function. It does not assess, however, nor does it attempt to assess, other reading skills.
As students progress through the Academic Associates Reading Course
all their other reading skills are normally raised to at least their appropriate
age and grade in school, and often significantly higher, on most standardized
reading tests.
The Basic Reading Inventory, by Jerry L. Johns is used to measure comprehension, retention, application and overall fluency.
